Macy's, Dillard's and Saks Fifth Avenue, among other chains, will be giving away free cosmetics on Jan. 20 as part of a 5 year old 175 million dollar settlement involving price fixing on beauty products. Other stores named in the suit were Nordstrom, Nieman Marcus, and Target. Brands include Clinique, Lancome, Clarins, Guerlain, Givenchy, Chanel, Calven Klein, L,Oreal, Christian Dior, Boucheron, and Cody. The offer will last until all of the products in a particular store are distributed.
I think what makes this newsworthy, is that it is a sign of recession. It's also going to draw a lot of people into the stores that otherwise might not be shopping.
