Coal Cracker Heaven, or When Life Begins to Imitate Art
Another cold gray morning in coal cracker heaven. Oh, look at that, it's snowing.....again. (pulls down the window blind)
Guess I'll get some dishes done, and put on a pot of coffee.
While the coffee's brewing, I'll save myself a trip upstairs and use the closet potty. Both "potty areas" (yes, we have two) come complete with an assortment of National Geographic magazines. The closet potty also stores a bunch of other stuff, like a lite kite, which I imagine is good for freaking the neighbors out by making them think there are aliens up there in the night sky. Yep, life doesn't get much more fancy than this. Babyzilla's training potty is in front of the mirror in the living room, so she can watch herself "go" and not feel like she's missing out on anything.
Cute Hubby brought home a Girl Scout training manual from an auction for me. Why he thought I would want it is beyond me. He said "I thought you might want it for fodder". And I said "I don't think so". Then he said "It's a lot different from the Boy Scouts manual, which teaches cool stuff like building bridges and campsites". To which I replied "The Girl Scout manual is from 1953, when girls went to school, then college, then hopefully got married so they would never have to use their education". Cute Hubby gave me one of his "clueless" looks, so the conversation died there. That's o.k., we were just getting to the interesting part of "Building your own log cabin" on youtube anyway.
I love my little folklore lamp. I am beginning to relate to it, I hope that's not a bad thing. "Dancing granny" is no beauty, but hey, at least she can still dance.

Shallow as an Open Grave (shopping post)
Thanks so much for all the well wishes for Cute Hubby and his "rolling stone". Not 100% sure, but we think that's what it was, and that it passed. Now on to something completely different.
Lo and behold, the Minnetonka Kilty Peace Sign Moccasin, found after looking at hundreds of moccasins (comparing prices & shipping). The winning price: $34.99 w/free shipping, SOLD baby.
What I had originally wanted was Coconuts Topanga Moccasin sold at Delia's for $44.50, but my youngest daughter pointed out questionable stitching and sole. Needless to say, I am overjoyed with my final decision, and cannot wait to get them in the mail. I haven't worn mocs since I was as young as I look, hehe.

Shakira - "Gypsy" Music Video and Lyrics
Check out Shakira’s hot new video "Gypsy" featuring tennis champ Rafael Nadal.
Here's what Shakira has to say about Rafael Nadal:
"Shooting this video with Rafa was a great experience, he is very sweet and made it easy and fun. He and I have so much in common — starting out so young in our respective careers and traveling the world — I felt this would translate the spirit of the lyrics in the song and I was thrilled he wanted to be a part of it."
Rafael Nadal's response:
"It has been a great experience and I had a lot of fun doing it. I had some time in between tournaments and preparation and could not miss this opportunity. Shakira, as always, was spectacular. Working with a woman as charming as her, well, it makes it a lot easier to tell the truth. It was great, very easy, she’s really sweet and that always makes the hours go by faster."

Broke my heart
On the road
Spent the weekend
Sewing the pieces back on
Friends and thoughts pass me by
Walking gets too boring
When you learn how to fly
Not the homecoming kind
Take the top off
And who knows what you might find
Won't confess all my sins
You can bet I'll try it
But I can't always win
'Cause I'm a gypsy
Are you coming with me?
I might steal your clothes
And wear them if they fit me
I never made agreements
Just like a gypsy
And I won't back down
'Cause life's already bit me
And I won't cry
I'm too young to die
If you're gonna quit me
'Cause I'm a gypsy
('Cause I'm a gypsy)
I can't hide
what I've done
Scars remind me
Of just how far that I've come
To whom it may concern
Only run with scissors
When you want to get hurt
I said hey you
You're no fool
If you say 'NO'
Ain't it just the way life goes?
People fear what they don't know
Come along for the ride, Oh yeah
Come along for the ride, whoo-hoo.

Sam's singing prowess and good-natured personality will lead her to find a spot in the entertainment industry despite her unpleasant looks.
Regine was able to sympathize with her character "Sam" because of the discrimination that they go through. Even though Regine's character has an extraordinary talent in singing, she had to cover her face with clothes or even mascot costumes so as not to "scare away" the people.
Diva will also reunite the sweet comic tandem of Regine and Mark Anthony Fernandez. They first worked together in the romantic-comedy series Ako Si Kim Samsoon. In Diva, Mark plays Gary, Sam's cool and loyal childhood friend. A good lyricist and a good writer, Gary's goal is to find the woman who deserves his love.
IN SUPPORT:
TJ Trinidad. In her first TV project with the Asia's Songbird, TJ plays Martin, a rich, charming, boy-next-door kind of guy. He is a good composer and very passionate about his music. His parents want him to focus on classical music but he prefers pop and alternative music.
Rufa Mae Quinto. This sexy comedienne portrays the role of Lady, a model who becomes a singer despite her lack of talent. Sam will be her ghost singer and eventually her rival. Lady will make Sam's life miserable.
Glaiza de Castro. Young actress Glaiza follows up her kontrabida role as Eunice in Stairway To Heaven with another kontrabida role here in Diva. She plays Tiffany, Lady's personal assistant who will eventually become a singer also.
Jaya. The Queen of Soul finally gets to realize her dream of acting in a soap opera via Diva. Here, she plays Barbra, the know-it-all best friend of Sam.
Randy Santiago. This '90s matinee idol plays George, an executive producer of a recording company who will give Sam the opportunity to become a diva.
Buboy Garovillo. APO Hiking Society's Buboy Garovillo is Elvis, the loving father of Sam. A former musician turned taxi driver, Elvis will push his daughter to reach for her dream. He is even Sam's avid fan and will support his daughter in every step she makes to reach her dream.
Gloria Diaz. Former Miss Universe Gloria Diaz plays Paula, the mother of Sam. She is a former beauty queen and a frustrated singer/actress who blames her ugly daughter for losing opportunity in showbiz.
Mark Herras. This Starstruck alumna plays Smith, Sam's half-brother. This is the second soap of Mark with Regine. They first worked together in Forever in My Heart.
Ynna Asistio. She will portray the role of Vanessa, the neighbor of Sam who has a big crush on Smith.

Ghost Dog and White Pain Faced Man
We got pounded by snow again last night. This year's snow totals are the highest since 1979. Everything has taken on a kind of a ghostly look: The snow blowing sideways in the night, the snow dunes, even the neighbor's dogs. When the dogs run through the snow, you can't see their legs so they look like they're floating. Floating slowly across a snow duned landscape.
Cute Hubby's having some strange pain, we think it might be a kidney stone, ugh. We have no medical insurance, surprise! So, he's drinking lots of water, and hoping to be able to deal with the pain until he passes it. There might be a trip to the ER in the near future. I'll be working later, so I've left him with a list of phone numbers in case the pain comes back. Stop making that face at me, I tried my best to get out of working, o.k.? Done judging? Good, so anywhoooo, I might be a little scarce the next few days. I don't know, we'll see. I keep imagining getting really reamed out by the doctor for not bringing him in sooner:
Doctor: (looking sternly over his spectacles at me)Tell me again why you didn't bring him in sooner.
Me: He's a survivalist, and also, he doesn't trust doctors.
The conversation spirals quickly downward from there. Use your imagination.
Regine Velasquez Stars in GMA-7's First Kantaserye "Diva"
GMA-7 presents its first-ever "kantaserye" Diva, a drama-musical starring Asia's Songbird Regine Velasquez and her reunion project with her former Ako Si Samsoon leading man Mark Anthony Fernandez, plus TJ Trinidad.
Aside from Regine, Mark Anthony and TJ, Diva will feature a star-studded cast composed of Rufa Mae Quinto, and Glaiza de Castro along with music icons Buboy Garovillo and Randy Santiago. It also marks the first time that the Queen of Soul, Jaya, will take part in a soap opera.
Adding color to the story are Mark Herras, Ynna Asistio and former beauty queen-turned-actress Gloria Diaz.
Synopsis: Diva is about the funny but touching life of Sampaguita a.k.a. Sam (Regine Velasquez), a hideous-looking woman who dreams of becoming a famous singer someday. Sam's singing prowess and good-natured personality will lead her to find a spot in the entertainment industry despite her unpleasant looks.
But life will not be that easy for Sam because there are pretty, sexy and talented ladies who will make life miserable for her. These include Lady (Rufa Mae Quinto), a model who aspires to be a diva and Tiffany (Glaiza de Castro), Lady's personal assistant who will eventually becomes a singer too. These women will be Sam's friends-turned-rivals.
Another character who will hinder Sam's dreams of becoming a singer is her own mother, Paula (Gloria Diaz), a former beauty queen and a frustrated singer-actress. She blames her ugly daughter for making her lose the opportunity to become big in showbiz.
Unlike her mother, Sam's dad Elvis (Buboy Garovillo), a former musician-turned-taxi driver, is very supportive of her dreams. He will push his daughter to reach for her dream. He is Sam's number one fan.
Aside from Elvis, the people who believe in Sam's talents are her best friend Barbra (Jaya), her half-brother Smith (Mark Herras), her neighbor Vanessa (Ynna Asistio), and George (Randy Santiago), an executive producer of a recording company.
Two young and gorgeous men, meanwhile, will fall for Sam. They are cousins Gary (Mark Anthony Fernandez) and Martin (TJ Trinidad). Gary is Sam's cool and loyal childhood friend. He is a good lyricist and a good writer. His goal is to find a woman who deserves his love.
Martin, on the other hand, is a rich, charming, boy-next-door kind of guy. He is a good composer and very passionate about his music. His parents want him to focus on classical music but he prefers pop and alternative music.
Who among these men will truly love Sam? Does having an ugly face automatically become an impediment to one's dreams? Is surgery the best solution to fulfill one's ambitions? When Sam gets the spotlight that she aspires for, will she manage to withstand the intrigues that go along with it?
Join Sam as she takes a humorous and awe-inspiring journey in GMA-7's first-ever kantaserye titled Diva. Under the direction of Dominic Zapata, it will air on the Kapuso Network starting Monday, March 1, right after The Last Prince on GMA Telebabad.

Beautiful Girl - Music Video:
Beautiful girl, wherever you are
I knew when I saw you, you had opened the door
I knew that I'd love again after a long, long while
I'd love again.
You said hello and I turned to go
But something in your eyes left my heart beating so
I just knew that I'd love again after a long, long while
I'd love again.
It was destiny's game
For when love finally came on
I rushed in line only to find
That you were gone.
Whenever you are, I fear that I might
Have lost you forever like a song in the night
Now that I've loved again after a long, long while
I've loved again.
Beautiful girl, I'll search on for you
'Til all of your loveliness in my arms come true
You've made me love again after a long, long while
In love again.
And I'm glad that it's you
Hmm, beautiful girl...

This is What Happens When You Lose Control of the Camera
Cute Hubby snapped off some photos of me. The first one is pretty good. Not bad for a 51 year old broad.
The second one, not so good. Notice the pissy facial expression and the "hamhock" thigh that looks like it's ready for carving.

bangle: forever 21
earrings: Silver Forest of Vermont (each piece tells a story, mine have the bee- very rare)
